“Toronto Officer Charged with Impaired Driving in Leaside”

A Toronto police officer faces charges of impaired driving following an incident where an individual was discovered asleep behind the wheel of a stationary vehicle in Leaside over the weekend. Inspector Michael Hayles, aged 51 and off duty at the time of apprehension, is accused of operating a conveyance while impaired and operating a conveyance with a blood alcohol level exceeding 80 milligrams in 100 milliliters of blood, as per the Toronto Police Service.

Responding to a report of an individual in the stationary vehicle in the vicinity of Laird Drive and Eglinton Avenue E. around 6 a.m. on Sunday, law enforcement officials took action. Hayles, a veteran with 30 years of service and stationed at 55 Division, has been placed on suspension with pay in accordance with Ontario’s Community Safety and Policing Act, as confirmed by police spokesperson Nadine Ramadan. He holds the title of the second in command at 55 Division on the police department’s official website.
