“Canadian Armed Forces Members Arrested in Organized Crime Probe”

The Department of National Defence has reported that two Canadian Armed Forces members were apprehended by Toronto police on charges connected to organized crime, abduction, and theft of firearms. The individuals, Sachintha Fernando and James Moreau, affiliated with the 7 Toronto Regiment, have been relieved of their duties and restricted from military installations following their arrests on August 11. Details of the accusations were not disclosed, with inquiries directed to Toronto police.

Both individuals, who hold the title of bombardier, are retained as armed forces members pending an administrative review, as confirmed by the DND. Fernando became a reservist in January 2020 without deployment experience, while Moreau enlisted as a reservist in March 2018 and participated in Operation Laser in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Canadian Press has made contact with Toronto police for a statement.
