“Passengers Restrain Man Trying to Open Cockpit Door on Local Flight”

Passengers and a flight attendant had to restrain a man on a local flight who attempted to open the cockpit door while experiencing psychological distress, as reported by Quebec provincial police. The incident took place during a flight from Blanc-Sablon to Sept-Îles, Que., with a stop in La Romaine, Que. Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Sgt. Marc Tessier stated that the man’s disruptive behavior occurred shortly after two passengers, including the individual in question, boarded the aircraft in La Romaine. The man tried to open the cockpit door and caused damage to the bathroom door, prompting four passengers and the flight attendant to intervene.

Authorities from the SQ’s Côte-Nord-du-Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent station were alerted to the situation involving the distressed passenger by 5 p.m. ET. The pilot redirected the plane back to La Romaine, where the man was apprehended by the police. The man, in his 30s, was subsequently taken to the hospital for medical evaluation. Despite the incident, no injuries were reported, although several passengers were understandably shaken up by the ordeal.

Thirteen individuals, including two pilots and a flight attendant, were on board during the incident. SQ media spokesperson Nancy Fournier mentioned that an investigation will be conducted to determine if charges will be filed for legal review.
