A 14-year-old and another individual were apprehended in Montreal North on Friday after a jewelry store robbery, according to Montreal law enforcement. The robbery occurred at Place Versailles around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, with multiple suspects involved. Two suspects fled in a vehicle and collided with another car at the intersection of Galeries d’Anjou Boulevard and Jarry Street. The suspects then abandoned their vehicle near de la Pléiade Street and de Neuville Avenue. Law enforcement detained two suspects at the site and found a bag of stolen jewelry. A canine unit was deployed to support the investigation.
In a separate incident earlier on Thursday, five minors were taken into custody after a vehicle evading Montreal police crashed into a convenience store in Saint-Henri. The police had responded to a 911 call reporting a conflict with an armed individual at Palm Avenue and de Courcelle Street. A Communauto vehicle sped past police on de Courcelle, leading to a pursuit that ended with the vehicle crashing into the store entrance. All five occupants, minors, were detained at the scene. One passenger sustained minor injuries, and another fled. Fortunately, no one inside the building during the crash was harmed. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
