Two individuals have lost their lives following a head-on crash involving an SUV and a pickup truck in Cherry Valley, P.E.I. The incident occurred on Route 1 at approximately 9:30 p.m., as confirmed by an RCMP news update on Friday. Initial findings suggest that the SUV veered across the center line, colliding with the oncoming pickup truck. Subsequently, the truck overturned and ignited, as stated by law enforcement.
The male driver of the pickup truck and the female driver of the SUV were tragically pronounced deceased at the scene, with no other occupants in either vehicle. Authorities attribute heavy rainfall as a potential contributing factor to the collision. Route 1 underwent closure for an extended period while investigators and a collision reconstruction specialist conducted an examination of the area, with the investigation still ongoing.
Emergency response teams including the Cross Roads and Vernon River fire departments, Island EMS, the Coroner’s Office, and the Department of Transportation promptly responded to the crash scene in addition to the RCMP.
