In a recent auction held in July, a lightsaber linked to Luke Skywalker’s severed hand from the movie “The Empire Strikes Back” was sold for a record-breaking price of $3.75 million US. This sale marked the highest amount ever paid for a prop used in any “Star Wars” film, as confirmed by the auction house.
Now, enthusiasts have the opportunity to acquire the lightsaber that was involved in the iconic scene. A Darth Vader lightsaber, notably used in the memorable duel in Cloud City where he reveals to Skywalker, “I am your father,” is set to be a highlight at the upcoming Ultimate Star Wars Auction organized by Heritage Auctions on November 12.
Anticipated to reach a minimum of $1 million US, the Vader lightsaber was also featured in “Return of the Jedi” and is just one of over twenty lightsaber props scheduled for auction. The event will cover props from various “Star Wars” Episodes, encompassing I through IX, in addition to props from other productions within the expansive George Lucas universe.
Among the items available are the lightsabers wielded by Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker in “Revenge of the Sith,” each estimated to sell for at least $10,000 US. Furthermore, an EE-3 carbine blaster utilized by Boba Fett in “The Empire Strikes Back” is predicted to fetch over $100,000 US.
The auction will also feature a Yoda puppet hand utilized by Frank Oz in “The Empire Strikes Back,” Anthony Daniels’ signed personal screenplay for the original 1977 “Star Wars,” and a TIE Fighter pilot helmet from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
