After graduating from university in 2016, Sabrina Davidson eagerly left Saint John and headed to Taiwan to teach English. Her decision was fueled by a desire to explore the world’s cuisines and ingredients. Immersed in the local culture, she began documenting her culinary experiences through videos shared with family and friends.
Her small YouTube channel gained popularity in Taiwan, leading to collaborations with local authorities to showcase temples and street food markets. What started as a side project during her teaching stint eventually evolved into a full-time travel food content creation job.
When the pandemic disrupted her work, Davidson redirected her focus to her hometown of Saint John. She discovered a rich tapestry of culinary stories, including farmers growing local ingredients like potatoes and dedicated fishermen supplying lobsters. Embracing her roots, she developed a newfound appreciation for the local food scene.
Davidson’s journey culminates in a new TV show, “Sabrina Eats! Saint John,” set to debut in January. The show, directed by Gorjan Veletic, features Davidson sampling dishes prepared by local chef Jakob Lutes using three distinct New Brunswick ingredients.
Through the show, Davidson explores various mushrooms foraged at Moss Glen Nature Trail, indulges in a mushroom sourdough toast, and savors apple mince pie made from Mackay Apple Orchard’s apples. She also experiences large black hog, an endangered heritage swine breed, in rappie pie, a traditional Acadian dish, emphasizing the importance of consuming such breeds to support their preservation.
Although Davidson initially pursued a degree in biology and psychology with plans for further studies, her passion for food and travel redirected her path. Her exposure to diverse flavors in Taiwan opened her eyes to the vast culinary world, igniting her passion for food exploration and content creation.
As she reflects on her journey, Davidson acknowledges the transformative power of food, realizing that the world of flavors and experiences she once admired from afar is now an integral part of her life.
