Taylor Ruck, a 26-year-old swimmer from Kelowna, B.C., showcased her skills at the second leg of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup series by clinching the top spot for Canada on Saturday. Ruck claimed the gold medal in the women’s 200-meter backstroke event with an impressive time of 2 minutes 2.41 seconds. Following closely behind her was Anna Peplowski from the United States in second place with a time of 2:02.71, and Waka Kobori from Japan secured the third spot with a time of 2:06.99.
Having already clinched four Olympic medals in the past, Ruck added to her impressive resume by earning silver medals in both the women’s 100-meter backstroke and 50-meter freestyle earlier in the competition. In total, Canada wrapped up the Tashkent event with a medal haul of seven, comprising one gold, three silver, and three bronze medals.
The World Aquatics Swimming World Cup series will draw to a close next week in Kazakhstan, offering one final opportunity for swimmers to showcase their talent on the international stage.
