Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior was shown a direct red card for yanking the hair of Villarreal’s Nathan Saliba during their recent La Liga match. The incident occurred as Vinicius celebrated his goal, prompting the referee to review the preceding moments with the help of video assistance.
The goal was disallowed, and Vinicius received the red card for forcefully pulling Saliba’s hair while both players were running down the field. Despite being reduced to 10 men in the 73rd minute, Madrid managed to secure a narrow 1-0 victory.
Vinicius, who came on as a substitute just before Madrid took the lead through Yan Diamonde, found himself at the center of controversy. Initially elated with what he thought was a second goal, his joy turned to anger when the referee’s decision was made. He expressed his displeasure vocally towards the official while teammates attempted to calm him down as he exited the pitch.
Madrid’s next match is against Barcelona in two rounds.
