Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule Changes in Hamilton

This Monday marks Thanksgiving for Canadians, with many enjoying a three-day weekend. However, some services and businesses will experience schedule changes due to the holiday.

Garbage and recycling collections will not occur on Monday in Hamilton, leading to a one-day delay for pickup throughout the week. Community recycling centers and transfer stations will be closed on Monday.

The HSR will operate on a Sunday schedule on Monday, with the final downtown buses departing at midnight. Services on routes 12 Wentworth and 42 Mohawk East will not run on Monday, and all DARTS subscription trips except for dialysis will be canceled. Advance booking is necessary for travel on Monday.

Major grocery stores like Walmart and Costco will be closed on Monday, though select independent grocers and convenience stores may remain open. Hamilton LCBO and Beer Store locations will also be closed. Malls such as CF Lime Ridge and Eastgate Square will not open on Monday.

Public spaces like Hamilton Public Library branches, recreation centers, arenas, senior centers, the Farmers Market, civic museums, and the tropical greenhouse at Gage Park will be closed on Sunday and Monday. Westfield Heritage Village, however, will operate from 12 to 4 p.m. on both days.

City services centers, the housing services office, municipal parking system office, public health administration offices, animal services office and shelter, as well as alcohol, drug, and gambling services will be closed on Monday. The child and adolescent service walk-in clinic will also be closed. For more information on Hamilton’s service closures during Thanksgiving weekend, visit the city’s website.
