“Charges Laid in Tragic Carbon Monoxide Death Case”

Ontario Provincial Police have announced charges against two individuals and a company following the tragic death of a 19-year-old in Lively on May 23, 2025. The OPP disclosed that the teenager was discovered unconscious at a residence and later declared deceased. Subsequent to a post-mortem examination, it was concluded that Roch (Rocco) Reneaud passed away due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

The OPP took over the investigation at the behest of the chief of Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) on June 18, 2025, citing an “institutional conflict.” Last June, the GSPS released a statement indicating that an inquiry was launched into the conduct of two off-duty police officers on May 23, 2025, following a complaint from the chief on June 13, 2025. The two officers, who were not named, were placed on administrative leave with pay. No further developments on this matter have been provided.

Charged with criminal negligence causing death are Craig Boyer, 59, from Sheguiandah, Dennis Beaudry, 53, from Lively, and Sunswim Pool Concepts and Design Limited of Coniston. The accused have been released pending their court appearance scheduled for January 6, 2027. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the OPP North East Region Crime Unit in collaboration with the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, the Office of the Chief Coroner, and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
