“HV-Goose Bay Extends Boil Water Advisory to December”

Happy Valley-Goose Bay will continue to be under a town-wide boil water advisory until at least December. The extension was announced by the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay and 5 Wing Goose Bay air force base as a precautionary measure following medical advice. The initial advisory was issued due to high levels of cloudiness in the water, impacting the water treatment process’s effectiveness and potentially allowing more contaminants to pass through the system.

Although no contaminants have been detected so far, the advisory will persist in compliance with public health regulations. The air force base is planning to upgrade its filtration and treatment systems, but residents are advised to prepare for the advisory to last until December. Collaborative efforts between the air base, the town, and other stakeholders are underway to resolve the boil water advisory promptly.

Residents are urged to boil water vigorously for at least one minute before consumption. Boiled water should be used for drinking, cooking, and oral hygiene, while tap water is deemed safe for hygiene practices like handwashing, showering, and dishwashing. For inquiries, residents can contact the 27 Canadian Forces Health Services Centre Goose Bay at 709-896-7222.
