“Man Sentenced to 5 Years for Sex Trafficking Teen”

In a recent court hearing in Lethbridge, Alberta, a 51-year-old man named Skye Atoa was given a five-year sentence for various offenses, including the sex trafficking of a teenage girl. This decision came after authorities discovered three teenage girls being unlawfully held in his apartment.

Atoa admitted guilt to six charges, which involved trafficking, inappropriate behavior towards a teen, indecent exposure, encouraging inappropriate contact with a teen, and two counts of unlawful confinement. The incident unfolded on December 19, 2025, when Child and Family Services personnel, accompanied by a police officer, visited Atoa’s downtown apartment while searching for a missing 14-year-old girl.

Upon arrival, Atoa falsely claimed that the teen was his daughter and was just getting out of the shower. However, upon entering the apartment, officials found the teenager partially unclothed on a mattress. It was later revealed that Atoa and the girl were not related. The girl was immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention due to injuries and mental distress.

During the journey to the hospital and while waiting for treatment, the teenager disclosed disturbing information to the authorities, indicating potential sexual exploitation by Atoa. Allegedly, Atoa lured the younger girl with promises of drugs, money, and a place to stay, leading her to agree to visit his apartment.

Authorities arrested Atoa during a search of his apartment in the early hours of December 20, where they also found two older teenage girls. Earlier, when police initially approached the apartment on December 19, the older girls had attempted to let them in, but Atoa threatened them, forcing them to stay in the bathroom while officers were present.

Atoa further intimidated the girls by warning them that he would send “his boys” after them if they tried to escape. The entire incident sheds light on the disturbing nature of the situation and the challenges faced by the young victims at the hands of the perpetrator.
