“Inuvialuit Regional Corporation to Vote on Chair’s Removal”

The Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) is set to conduct a vote to decide on the potential removal of Erwin Elias as its chairperson. This action follows the initiation of an independent investigation in June, prompted by undisclosed complaints directed at Elias and the chairs of six community corporations affiliated with the IRC.

Although specific details of the allegations remain undisclosed, it has been clarified that the accusations precede Elias’s appointment as chair. Elias assumed the position in January, overseeing the Indigenous government that represents the Inuvialuit community.

Following the completion of the independent investigation, the IRC and the boards of directors of the community corporations have been presented with a confidential report outlining the investigation’s findings regarding the allegations. The IRC has confirmed that resolutions have been received from the boards of at least four community corporations, urging a vote to determine whether Elias should be ousted from his position.

The scheduled meeting for the vote is slated for October 28 and 29. Despite these internal developments, the IRC assures that its regular programs, services, and operations are functioning without disruption.
