Multi-Vehicle Collision Closes Highway 99

Highway 99 in South Surrey, British Columbia, has been shut down just east of the Highway 99 and Highway 91 junction following a multi-vehicle collision on Friday evening. The closure was initiated by DriveBC, with the southbound section from the Highway 91 overpass to the King George Boulevard on-ramp being closed around 5:30 p.m. PT, while northbound traffic was restricted to a single lane.

According to a statement from the Surrey Police Service (SPS), the accident involved a semi-truck, a bus, and other vehicles. Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton of SPS mentioned that the exact number and types of vehicles involved were unknown, and there was no information available regarding the bus type or whether it was carrying passengers. Emergency services, including Surrey Fire Services and paramedics, are present at the scene, although the extent of injuries is currently undisclosed.

Houghton indicated that it is anticipated that certain sections of the critical roadway will remain closed for several hours on Friday. DriveBC cautioned motorists in the vicinity to anticipate delays due to significant congestion resulting from the incident.
