“Honoré-Mercier Bridge Fully Reopened After Steel Beam Repair”

All lanes on the Honoré-Mercier Bridge have been reopened following repairs to a cracked steel beam, according to an announcement by Quebec’s Transport Ministry on Sunday. The cracked beam had forced the closure of a Montreal-bound lane last Tuesday, leading to significant traffic delays during rush hour. The issue was detected during routine maintenance activities.

Local leaders in the South Shore area took the opportunity to advocate for improved transportation options and even proposed the construction of a new bridge in response to the incident. The Transport Ministry expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the repair work carried out over the weekend, which focused on preventing the spread of the crack and enhancing the structural integrity of that section of the bridge.

Motorists were also reminded by the ministry that tolls on Highway 30, which had been temporarily suspended, have now been reinstated. The Honoré-Mercier Bridge serves as a crucial link between Montreal and the South Shore. The affected part of the bridge, added in 1963 to expand capacity by two lanes, complements the original section from 1934, now designated for southbound traffic.
