During a coroner’s inquest concerning the tragic death of a Toronto woman who fell from a 24th-floor balcony while police were present in her residence, Const. Shane Beaudoin, one of the responding officers, provided testimony.
Beaudoin shared that he volunteered to assist as backup when a dispatch alerted about a high-priority call regarding a knife-related assault on May 27, 2020.
He recounted meeting another officer from a different division outside the building, and together they entered after being permitted by a resident.
Beaudoin mentioned the challenge of processing a vast amount of incoming information, making it difficult to determine the primary instigator, especially given the complexity of it being a family dispute.

Police cleared of wrongdoing in death of of Regis Korchinski-Paquet
Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has cleared police of wrongdoing in the death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet. The Toronto woman fell to her death from her 24th-floor apartment balcony on May 27 while police were in her home, sparking nationwide protests.
Before arriving at the scene, Beaudoin had been informed that Korchinski-Paquet had suffered seizures earlier that day but only learned about postictal delirium during the inquest.
An agreed-upon narrative presented at the inquest last week revealed that Korchinski-Paquet had a history of epilepsy-related seizures, often leading to confusion, physical and verbal aggression, and temporary memory loss.
Although not directly involved in her care, a neurologist who reviewed her medical records testified that Korchinski-Paquet exhibited symptoms consistent with postictal delirium or postictal psychosis, both of which are altered mental states that can follow seizures.
