“Parti Québécois Emerges Victorious After Electoral Recount”

A recent judicial recount in the Vachon electoral district in the Montérégie region has revealed that Stephan Fogaing, the candidate for the Parti Québécois, secured victory in the district by a margin of three votes, as confirmed by sources from CBC.

The recount, initiated at the Longueuil courthouse on Monday, was prompted by the Parti Québécois following a close contest where the Quebec Liberal Party’s Affine Lwalalika received 10,063 votes, just 10 more than Fogaing, according to Élections Québec.

In response to the results, the Liberal Party, in a statement written in French on X, acknowledged the outcome but indicated that they were not conceding defeat to the Parti Québécois at this point. The party mentioned that legal experts were currently assessing the situation and considering all available legal options before making a decision on the next course of action.

The Parti Québécois declared that they would reserve their comments until Élections Québec releases an official statement.

Coincidentally, this development occurred on the day when Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon’s cabinet was being sworn in. With this recount outcome, the Parti Québécois now holds 60 seats in the National Assembly, just four seats shy of a majority.

Furthermore, a Quebec court judge has approved a judicial recount in the Champlain riding, also requested by the Parti Québécois. The recount is scheduled to commence on Thursday at the Trois-Rivières courthouse.
