“Winnipeg Jets Trade Goaltender Hellebuyck to Devils”

The Winnipeg Jets have bid farewell to goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, marking the end of his era with the team as he has been traded to the New Jersey Devils. Hellebuyck, a 33-year-old native of Michigan, is a decorated player with multiple accolades, including three Vezina Trophies and a Hart Trophy as the NHL MVP in 2025. Additionally, he has participated in five NHL All-Star Games and notably led the U.S. men’s hockey team to an Olympic gold medal in February 2026.

In exchange for Hellebuyck, the Jets have acquired forwards Dawson Mercer, Alexander Command, Nick Bjugstad, goaltender Nico Daws, New Jersey’s second-round pick in the 2029 NHL draft, and a seventh-round pick in the 2027 draft. Despite having five years remaining on his seven-year contract, Hellebuyck expressed his desire to be traded during exit interviews at the conclusion of the previous season, as confirmed by general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff last month.
