“Amazon to Close Fulfilment Center in Milton Keynes, 590 Jobs Affected”

Amazon is set to shut down a fulfilment center in Milton Keynes, affecting 590 jobs. The closure plan includes offering employees the option to transfer to the new Amazon facility in Northampton or to other locations. The new £500 million Northampton site is expected to open in May, initially hiring 1,400 workers with a potential increase to 2,000.

Notably, the Amazon sortation center in Milton Keynes, a distinct part of the company’s logistics operations, remains unaffected by these changes. An Amazon spokesperson emphasized that the decision is part of ongoing network evaluations to align with business requirements and enhance the overall experience for both employees and customers.

In a separate development, Amazon has commenced testing drone flights from its Darlington base as a prelude to launching an airborne delivery service in the UK by 2026. While the drone delivery service is not yet operational, eligible customers in Darlington will eventually be able to receive packages weighing under five pounds within a two-hour timeframe.

Amazon’s drone technology is designed for quiet operations, with noise levels comparable to traditional van deliveries. The drones are equipped with advanced systems to detect and avoid obstacles during flight, ensuring safe and efficient deliveries. The company affirmed its commitment to collaborating with local authorities and aviation regulators for a smooth integration of drone delivery services in the UK.
