This time, the Team Trump account featured her song “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)” in a TikTok video that tagged the Grammy-winning artist. The post, uploaded on Thursday, showed President Trump approaching a podium to speak, with text from Grande’s 2024 hit track overlaid on the video. Grande responded in the comments section, demanding that her music not be used again and asserting that the administration’s “truth” is false.
This incident follows Grande’s earlier objection in mid-June when her song “Bye” was used in a TikTok video related to immigration policy. Numerous artists, including Taylor Swift and ABBA, have criticized the Trump team for using their music. Over the years, Trump’s campaigns have faced backlash from artists like Neil Young, John Fogerty, Queen, The Rolling Stones, ABBA, Beyoncé, and others for playing their music without permission.
Some artists have taken legal action, like issuing cease and desist orders or filing lawsuits, to prevent their music from being used by Team Trump. Despite political campaigns having the option to purchase licenses to use music legally, individual artists can choose to opt out for various reasons.
