The fifth-ranked player from Montreal was forced to withdraw from his fourth-round match against Casper Ruud from Norway in China. Auger-Aliassime was behind 5-2 in the first set before retiring after a brief 35-minute match. He visibly appeared injured and received medical attention before making the decision to stop playing. As a result, Ruud moves on to the quarterfinals where he will compete against Rafael Jodar from Spain. Meanwhile, Jodar secured his spot in the quarterfinals with a 6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-2 victory over Botic van de Zandschulp from the Netherlands.

On the other hand, Daniil Medvedev advanced to the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas. Medvedev, seeded fifth, won 6-4, 7-5 in their latest match, becoming only the fourth player alongside Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray to reach the tournament’s last eight for three consecutive years. The upcoming matches will see Tommy Paul facing Zizou Bergs, who previously defeated Carlos Alcaraz, with the winner earning the chance to challenge Medvedev. In the top half of the draw, the quarterfinal matchups are set, featuring Alexander Zverev against Alex de Minaur and Arthur Gea against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
