BC RCMP Officer Charged with Assault with Weapon

An RCMP officer in northeastern British Columbia is facing charges of assault with a weapon stemming from an incident on duty last year. Constable Maxim Pinke, a member of the Northern Rockies RCMP detachment in Fort Nelson, had the charge approved by an impartial Crown Counsel on October 15 following an alleged incident at Fort Nelson First Nation on November 6, 2025.

The officer has been reassigned to administrative duties by the B.C. RCMP, and is set to appear in court on October 26 in Fort Nelson. The initiation of a Criminal Code investigation by an external RCMP unit was prompted as soon as concerns about the on-duty incident arose, as stated by Staff Sgt. Kris Clark. A concurrent Code of Conduct investigation is also in progress.

Specific details regarding the reported assault have not been disclosed, with the prosecution service opting not to release additional information due to the ongoing legal proceedings. Although it was confirmed that the incident was probed by the North District RCMP, the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia typically handles cases involving police officers in incidents resulting in serious harm or death.

In this instance, as the injuries did not meet the serious harm threshold, the investigation was carried out by other law enforcement agencies, according to the prosecution service. Pinke’s duty status is continuously under evaluation and scrutiny, as highlighted by Staff Sgt. Clark.
