“Bolsonaro and Lula to Face Off in Brazil’s Run-off Election”

Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, a political supporter of United States President Donald Trump, and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the seasoned leader of Brazil, are set to compete in a run-off election on October 25 for the presidency of the prominent Latin American economy. The electoral court in Brasília confirmed that neither the incumbent 80-year-old president, vying for his fourth non-consecutive term, nor the 45-year-old son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, garnered the required 50 percent or more of the total vote in the initial round.

The run-off election is scheduled for October 25, with the new presidential term commencing on January 5, 2027.
