British Man Dies After Cosmetic Surgery in Turkey

A British man who underwent cosmetic surgery in Turkey has passed away. Mentor Rama, 36, traveled to Istanbul for a hair transplant and dental work but collapsed shortly after the procedures. He began feeling unwell after returning to his hotel room and was taken to a local hospital where he sadly died on November 11.

Following his death, Rama’s body was sent for an autopsy at the Council of Forensic Medicine in Istanbul, and Turkish authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) stated that they are assisting the man’s family and liaising with local officials.

Rama’s remains have been repatriated to the UK, as reported by Turkish media. Turkey has seen an increase in medical tourism, particularly in cities like Antalya and Istanbul, offering comprehensive packages that include airport transfers, accommodation, and transportation between appointments.

Despite the appeal of lower costs, with procedures like ‘Turkey teeth’ being significantly cheaper than in the UK, some UK dentists have cautioned against seeking dental treatments abroad due to potential risks and complications. Turkey has tragically witnessed several fatalities among British nationals undergoing elective medical procedures, highlighting the importance of thorough research and consideration before opting for treatments overseas.
