British Man Dies After Hair Transplant and Dental Work in Turkey

A British man is reported to have passed away following a combination of a hair transplant and dental treatment in Turkey. The individual is said to have undergone a hair procedure in Istanbul’s Fulya district and dental work in the Ayazaga area on subsequent days. After returning to his hotel, he fell ill and was taken to Seyrantepe Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital, where he later died. An investigation is ongoing, and the cause of death is pending autopsy results.

According to the Mirror, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirmed their engagement with local authorities regarding the incident. Turkey has emerged as a popular choice for affordable hair transplants, capturing a significant portion of the global market due to its cost-effective and high-quality services. The Turkish Healthcare Travel Council reports that over a million individuals travel to Turkey annually for hair restoration treatments, with projections indicating a rise to 1.1 million patients by 2025.

Unfortunately, tragedies have occurred amidst the flourishing industry. Not long ago, a British man named Martyn Latchman lost his life following a hair transplant in Istanbul, similar to a previous fatality involving another British individual after a procedure in the same city. Authorities in Istanbul have initiated an investigation, questioning clinic personnel. Despite the clinic’s positive reputation and extensive experience, caution is advised for individuals considering elective medical procedures in Turkey due to past incidents.

The Foreign Office disclosed that at least 28 British nationals had died in Turkey from elective medical treatments between 2019 and March 2024. Recent cases, such as Hayley Butler’s fatal complications after surgery and Anne Towlson’s tragic outcome following procedures, highlight the importance of verifying surgeons’ credentials and ensuring proper medical oversight. Potential patients are advised to confirm a surgeon’s registration with official medical bodies before proceeding with any elective surgery in Turkey.
