A British woman tragically lost her life during a snowstorm in Patagonia, Chile, while on what her employers described as a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Victoria Bond, a Cornwall resident, was identified as one of the victims recovered from Torres del Paine National Park following a challenging search operation amidst extreme 118mph winds.
Among the casualties were two German and two Mexican nationals, with Ms. Bond being the sole British victim. Her employers at Visit Isles of Scilly expressed deep sorrow over her passing, highlighting her role as the head of public relations for over six years. She was on a hiking expedition with friends in Argentina and Chile at the time of the tragic incident.
Described as charismatic and passionate, Victoria’s colleagues remembered her infectious laughter and unwavering dedication to promoting Scilly. The Chair of Visit Isles of Scilly, Andrew Sells, praised her exceptional work ethic and mourned her loss, emphasizing her valuable contributions to the community.
As the search and rescue efforts in Patagonia come to a close, authorities are focused on repatriating the victims. The Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed their support for Ms. Bond’s family, while Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font extended condolences to all affected families, affirming the government’s commitment to assist in every way possible.
