“Canadian Alpine Skier Valérie Grenier Suffers Knee Injury”

Canadian alpine skier Valérie Grenier has announced that she sustained a knee injury during training for the upcoming season and will need to undergo surgery. Grenier shared a photo on her Instagram account showing her using crutches, revealing that the injury occurred two days ago while preparing for the World Cup opener in Soelden, Austria this weekend. She mentioned that she is heading home and will only know the full extent of the injury after the surgery scheduled for Friday.

The 29-year-old athlete from St. Isidore, Ontario, is a three-time Olympian with six career World Cup medals, including three gold medals in giant slalom events. Grenier’s most recent World Cup victory was on March 25 at a race in Norway. She also achieved consecutive wins at Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, in 2023 and 2024. Notably, the first of these wins marked the first time a Canadian woman had won a World Cup grand slalom event in 49 years.

Additionally, a video showcasing Grenier’s gold medal win in Norway in March 2026 has been shared, highlighting her success in the season’s final giant slalom race. This victory marked Grenier’s third career World Cup win, all achieved in the giant slalom discipline.
