Drainville highlighted the negative consequences of the Canada-U.S. trade war on Quebec residents and emphasized his commitment to representing their interests forcefully. He criticized Trump’s actions during the negotiations, interpreting them as a form of dominance over Canada, to which he responded with strong language.
Following the interview, various politicians responded to Drainville’s comments. CAQ Leader Christine Fréchette stressed the importance of maintaining a respectful tone in political discourse and acknowledged Drainville’s acknowledgment of the issue. She sympathized with the frustration felt by Drainville and Quebecers towards the trade war.
Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) Leader Charles Milliard described Drainville’s remarks as tactless during a press briefing, jokingly commenting on the situation. Quebec Conservative Party Leader Éric Duhaime characterized Drainville as someone known for using bold language.
Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon refrained from commenting directly on the controversy but expressed interest in a separate story linking him to donations made to the Liberal Party of Canada years ago.
