The Ottawa Rapid have confirmed that Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, will take over as their head coach for the upcoming season. This announcement follows the decision of current head coach Katrine Pedersen to depart the Northern Super League leaders at the season’s end, as reported last month.
Moscato, a distinguished member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, boasts an impressive playing career that includes three Women’s World Cups and a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. She brings coaching experience from stints in Denmark, Mexico, and most recently, Saudi Arabia.
The Rapid have secured Moscato on a two-season contract, with immediate involvement in preparations for 2027, including player recruitment. Team CEO Thomas Gilbert praised Moscato’s leadership qualities, technical expertise, and deep knowledge of Canadian soccer in a recent press release.
Expressing enthusiasm for the opportunity, Moscato stated, “The Rapid have laid a solid foundation in a short period. I am eager to continue that progress and create an environment where players can excel, grow, and compete at the highest levels.”
Currently leading the NSL standings with 10 wins in 15 matches, Ottawa’s last defeat occurred in late May. The Rapid’s upcoming match is scheduled in Calgary on Saturday at 4 p.m., and fans can watch it live on CBC Gem.
