“Daycare Worker, Children Struck by Car in Oshawa”

A tragic incident occurred in Oshawa on Wednesday morning when a daycare worker and five children were hit by a driver during their usual walk, as reported by Durham police. The authorities were notified of the collision around 9:25 a.m. at the intersection of Ryerson Crescent and Sheridan Street.

Following the incident, a two-year-old girl sustained severe, life-threatening injuries and was promptly airlifted to a trauma center in the Toronto area via an Air Ornge helicopter, revealed Sgt. Nicholas Gluckstein during a press briefing at the location. The four other children, aged between seven months and three years, suffered minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Additionally, a female adult daycare worker was also injured, though her condition was described as serious but not life-threatening. Both the driver and the injured individuals cooperated with police at the scene, with the driver subsequently being transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.

According to Gluckstein, the accident occurred as the vehicle was making a left turn, hitting the daycare worker and children who were crossing the street from northbound direction. Notably, there was no stop sign in place at the intersection where the tragic incident unfolded.

Durham police announced the temporary closure of the Ryerson Crescent and Sheridan Street intersection for further investigation.
