Denny Rodgers Selected for N.W.T. Cabinet

Denny Rodgers, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Inuvik Boot Lake, has been selected to join the cabinet of the Northwest Territories (N.W.T.) government, although his specific role has not been disclosed yet.

During a session at the N.W.T. Legislatives Assembly on Tuesday, Rodgers was unanimously chosen to fill the position left vacant by former health minister Lesa Semmler, who resigned as an MLA in September. Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity, Rodgers emphasized the importance of commitment among all members.

Acknowledging the complexity of addressing various issues, Rodgers highlighted the significance of collaboration and open communication to achieve tangible outcomes for the constituents. He was elected to the 20th Legislative Assembly in 2023, following a notable tenure of eight years on Inuvik’s town council and three years as the town’s mayor.

In adherence to the assembly’s practice of diverse cabinet representation, only MLAs from Monfwi, the Sahtu, Inuvik Boot Lakes, and Mackenzie Delta were eligible to vie for the vacant position, with Rodgers being the sole nominee. The specific portfolio assigned to Rodgers is yet to be disclosed, with a formal appointment confirmation expected in the upcoming session on Tuesday afternoon.

Furthermore, a by-election is scheduled for November 24 to elect a new MLA for Inuvik Twin Lakes.
