EDF has reintroduced its Sunday Saver challenge for February, offering customers free electricity on Sundays if they shift their electricity usage away from peak hours on weekdays, specifically between 4pm to 7pm. By participating, customers can earn between four and 16 hours of free electricity the following Sunday. EDF customers with smart meters can sign up for the challenge until Sunday, February 1.
The energy firm has reported that over 260,000 households have benefited from the Sunday Saver initiative, receiving a total of 17 million free hours of electricity, resulting in £5.2 million in bill credits. EDF customers will have four opportunities to participate in the Sunday Saver challenge in February – on February 15, 22, and March 1, 8.
During Christmas, more than 100,000 customers enjoyed eight hours of free electricity, with EDF giving away a total of 910,536 free hours of electricity to households. One customer, Natasha Shields from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, has accumulated over 680 free hours on Sundays, finding the challenge helpful in coping with rising living costs.
Jon Perks, Sales & Marketing Director at EDF, highlighted the benefits of the Sunday Saver challenge, especially during winter when bills are highest. He emphasized that households can monitor their electricity usage through the Energy Hub, identifying ways to save electricity and reduce their carbon footprint.
Additionally, EDF is offering £50 credit to new and existing customers who sign up for any of its electric vehicle (EV) tariffs in the next month. The EV tariffs provide five hours of cheaper electricity every night from 12am to 5am for both homes and electric vehicles. Customers can track their Sunday Saver progress on the Energy Hub via MyAccount, allowing them to access a personalized view of their household’s energy consumption.
