An individual from Edmonton has been accused of setting fire to the Memorial Arts Centre in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, resulting in its destruction. The 42-year-old suspect was taken into custody and later released on an appearance notice. He appeared in court in Wetaskiwin on Tuesday to face charges of arson with the intent to defraud insurance. The accused is scheduled to return to court on October 13 for further proceedings.
The incident unfolded on June 6 when Wetaskiwin RCMP responded to a fire at the historic Memorial Arts Centre, which had stood for nearly 80 years since its construction in 1947.
