Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from two exhibition events in the United States due to a minor injury but is preparing for the upcoming pre-season with a new physiotherapist. The British top-ranked player was set to compete against Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova in Newark and Miami next month, alongside Carlos Alcaraz, who is also participating in both tournaments.
World No. 6 Jessica Pegula will replace Raducanu and partner with Alcaraz for an exciting 10-point tiebreak against Anisimova and Joao Fonseca at the Miami Invitational. Tournament organizers confirmed Raducanu’s absence in a statement released on Monday, stating that Pegula would take her place due to injury.
Raducanu is currently dealing with a minor bone bruise in her right foot and has started working with a new physiotherapist, Emma Stewart, who previously worked with the successful men’s squad at British Rowing.
‘A Racquet at The Rock’ event is scheduled to occur at the New Jersey Prudential Centre on December 7th. Anisimova will now face Pegula in the first singles match, followed by Alcaraz against American player Frances Tiafoe.
The Miami Invitational will follow the next day, featuring two singles matches – Pegula versus Anisimova and Alcaraz versus Fonseca – before the mixed doubles match tiebreak.
Raducanu, who previously teamed up with Alcaraz at the US Open mixed doubles event, will not be able to reunite with him in Miami due to her injury.
The 23-year-old has not played a match since her early exit in Ningbo over a month ago. She had to withdraw from her last two tournaments of the year due to health issues after her defeat.
Raducanu, committed to starting her 2026 season at the United Cup, a mixed-gender team tournament across Perth and Sydney, where she will play alongside Jack Draper, Billy Harris, Lloyd Glasspool, Mimi Xu, and Olivia Nicholls for Team GB.
In Group E at the United Cup, the British team will compete against Greece and Japan, led by Maria Sakkari and Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Naomi Osaka and Shintaro Mochizuki, respectively.
Raducanu is currently enjoying her off-season after extending her partnership with Spanish coach Francis Roig. She recently celebrated her 23rd birthday and was seen supporting England in their victory over the All Blacks at Twickenham.
