As the final long weekend of the summer approaches, there are various activities and events for people to enjoy apart from the usual trips to splash pads, campgrounds, and local trails.
One of the highlights is the “Endless Summer” concert happening on Saturday from 2:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Victoria Park in Kitchener. The event will showcase a lineup of musicians including Meteor Heist, Shebad, DJ Joanna Magik, Valley, Boy Golden, and Mother Mother. Attendees can choose to stand near the stage or bring their own chairs to relax and listen to the music. Food trucks and beverages will be available on-site for convenience.
For sports enthusiasts, the Kitchener Rangers Fan Fest will take place on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. The event will feature free inflatable games, rides, an autograph session with Kitchener Rangers players, and a barbecue. Additionally, a summer showcase game against the Erie Otters is scheduled for Sunday, followed by an off-site home exhibition game against the Saginaw Spirit on Monday at the Woolwich Memorial Centre.
Movie lovers can head to Guelph’s city hall on Friday at 8 p.m. for “Cinema in the City,” where they can enjoy the animated film “Cars” under the stars. Bring your own lawn chairs, blankets, snacks, and drinks for a cozy outdoor movie experience.
Labor Day picnics will be held on Monday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Waterloo Park and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Riverside Park, Guelph. These events, organized by local labor groups, aim to raise awareness about workplace safety while providing a fun community gathering. Waterloo’s picnic will offer live music, food, inflatables, face painting, and more, with proceeds benefiting the United Way. In Guelph, attendees can enjoy free food, kids’ activities, music, and information tables.
Other events happening over the weekend include the “Sunset Sessions” concert series finale on Friday at 7 p.m. at Vogelsang Green in downtown Kitchener, and the “Guelph Outdoor Handmade Series” on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Royal City Park in Guelph.
