An explosion near a train station in Augsburg, Germany, led to a temporary closure of the transport hub after a suspicious object was discovered on Wednesday morning. Police confirmed later that the object was harmless, and the station reopened at 10 a.m., with train services resuming.
Authorities reported that an unidentified object exploded near the station’s passageway around 3:15 a.m., resulting in minor injuries to a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old man, both Ukrainian citizens. Following this incident, a second suspicious object was found at the main train station, prompting its shutdown at 8:30 a.m.
The police spokesperson, Timo Küfner, mentioned that explosives experts from the Bavarian state criminal police office were at the scene investigating. While the motive behind the explosion remains unknown, investigations are ongoing.
The disruption caused by the incident affected road traffic and public transportation in the station’s vicinity during the early hours of the morning. Reports indicated that the explosion occurred near a jewelry store, suggesting that the train station was not the intended target of the incident.
