Environment Canada has issued a warning about an approaching “fall storm” on the British Columbia coast, signaling the transition from summer weather. The alert specifically mentions western Vancouver Island, with a forecast of heavy rainfall exceeding 100 millimetres near Zeballos. Similar weather advisories are also in effect for the North and Central coasts of the region.
Meteorologist Chloe Katsademas from Environment Canada highlighted a low-pressure system developing off the North Coast of British Columbia on Tuesday, expected to move southward throughout the day. Katsademas emphasized the likelihood of significant rainfall leading to potential stream level increases and cautioned about the risk of landslides and localized flooding in areas that have experienced prolonged drought.
The most intense rainfall is anticipated between Kitimat and Bella Bella, as well as in the northern and western parts of Vancouver Island. Coastal regions may also experience strong southerly gusts, peaking Tuesday night and subsiding by Wednesday morning. While the wet weather is projected to shift towards the mainland in the following days, it is not expected to be as severe as on the coast.
