Ontario’s police watchdog reported that a 33-year-old individual lost their life in a collision involving three vehicles in Windsor on Sunday following an attempt by authorities to halt a pickup truck. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) stated that a Windsor police officer identified a “suspicious pickup truck” traveling northbound on St. Luke Road around 4 p.m. and tried to initiate a traffic stop. However, the pickup truck ignored the command and continued speeding northbound on St. Luke Road.
According to the SIU, the pickup truck subsequently collided with two other vehicles, including a Dodge Journey, resulting in the tragic death of the SUV’s driver. The incident took place at the intersection of St. Luke Road and Seminole Street.
The SIU has called for individuals possessing any information related to the investigation, such as videos or photographs, to come forward. This civilian law enforcement agency, distinct from the police, undertakes criminal inquiries into situations involving law enforcement that lead to severe injuries, fatalities, firearm discharges at individuals, or allegations of sexual assault.
