Kings District RCMP is currently conducting an investigation into a collision that occurred in Grand Pré, N.S., in the early hours of Sunday, resulting in the death of an 18-year-old man and injuries to four others, as stated in a press release.
A law enforcement officer attempting to intercept the vehicle was also transported to a medical facility for treatment. At approximately 1:50 a.m., an officer observed a grey Honda Civic speeding through downtown Wolfville and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the driver refused to comply and fled towards Grand Pré.
During the pursuit of the vehicle, the police car was involved in a crash just outside the town. Authorities report that the officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. At 1:53 a.m., emergency services responded to a separate crash on Highway 1 in Grand Pré, where the Honda had gone over an embankment.
Tragically, an 18-year-old male from Prospect Bay lost his life at the scene. Two other individuals in the vehicle were transported to a hospital by ambulance, while a fourth occupant was airlifted due to sustaining life-threatening injuries.
The RCMP has dispatched a collision reconstruction expert to investigate both crash sites. Additionally, Nova Scotia’s police oversight body, the Serious Incident Response Team, is conducting a review to determine if the incident falls under its purview.
The RCMP is appealing to anyone who may have video recordings or information regarding the incident to come forward.
