Ontario Provincial Police have verified that three individuals lost their lives in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 401 close to London last week. Elgin County OPP provided an update on Monday, revealing that a sedan carrying three individuals was rear-ended by a commercial motor vehicle following a traffic slowdown in the eastbound lanes. The incident occurred shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, near Mill Road in the Township of Southwold, located west of London.
Authorities mentioned that the traffic slowdown was a result of a previous crash on the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Colonel Talbot Road in Middlesex County. The identities of the deceased individuals have yet to be officially confirmed by the police. Response teams from Elgin County OPP, Middlesex County OPP, Medavie EMS Elgin, and local fire services promptly reacted to the collision scene.
The investigation into the crash is still ongoing, and law enforcement urges anyone with relevant information or dashcam footage capturing the vehicles involved to reach out to the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
