One fatality occurred in a fire that broke out in east London on Wednesday morning, one of two significant fires that firefighters quickly responded to. London fire crews rushed to a residence on Lyman Street, situated between Cheapside and Oxford Street, around 6:40 a.m. They swiftly initiated an aggressive attack strategy and successfully rescued one individual and a pet from the premises, as stated in a social media update by the department. Unfortunately, one person was found deceased inside the building, and details about the victim’s identity remain undisclosed.
London fire investigators, in collaboration with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office and London police, are actively probing the cause of the fire. As a result of the incident, Lyman Street has been cordoned off between Oxford and Krupp Streets.
In a separate occurrence, firefighters were summoned to a fire in an attached garage on Avenue Road, just south of Dingman Drive, shortly before 9:30 a.m. Initially employing an offensive approach to combat the fire, crews later shifted to a defensive stance due to a roof collapse, as mentioned on social media by the department. The blaze inflicted extensive damage on both the garage and the adjoining residence.
Following the incident, two individuals were transported to Victoria Hospital with injuries of unspecified severity, according to information provided by the fire department. Stay tuned for further updates.
