A fatal stabbing incident occurred at the Northern Store in Shamattawa, Manitoba, resulting in the death of a 36-year-old man, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The authorities in the community, situated approximately 750 kilometers northeast of Winnipeg, were alerted to an assault at the store at approximately 3 p.m. on Friday.
Upon receiving the report, officers quickly responded and discovered a man with severe injuries consistent with a stab wound, as stated in a police news release on Monday. The individual responsible for the assault, known to the victim, was present at the scene and was apprehended without resistance by the Mounties.
The injured man was rushed to the local nursing station but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. Following the tragic incident, the RCMP’s major crime services took charge of the investigation in Shamattawa. Rodney Beardy, a 58-year-old resident of Shamattawa, has been formally charged with second-degree murder and is currently in police custody.
