Voters in the Beaches—East York riding of Toronto are participating in a federal by-election today, along with two other constituencies across Canada. The by-elections are being held to fill seats that were recently vacated in Parliament.
Nate Erskine-Smith, the Liberal Member of Parliament for Beaches—East York, stepped down from his position last month. This decision followed his unsuccessful attempt to secure the Ontario Liberal nomination in Scarborough Southwest. Erskine-Smith has since announced his candidacy for Toronto city council.
In addition to Beaches—East York, by-elections are also taking place in Chicoutimi—Le Fjord, Quebec, and North Vancouver—Capilano, British Columbia. Polling stations in the Beaches—East York riding opened at 9:30 a.m. and are set to close at 9:30 p.m.
