Community members in Riverhead, Newfoundland and Labrador, are filled with joy following a generous donation from a former resident turned businessman to the local volunteer fire department. Trent Comerford, the owner of T&K Services, expressed his pride in giving back to his childhood community, donating 20 new bunker suits valued at $100,000 to the Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department.
A celebratory gathering was held on Thursday evening, where former Chief Don Boyles expressed his gratitude for the donation, highlighting the importance of the new suits as an upgrade from the department’s outdated gear. Firefighter Earle Kielly shared his excitement about the new suits, noting their lighter weight and comfort, which has boosted morale among the team.
Sheila Lee, a Riverhead resident and Comerford’s former kindergarten teacher, praised his altruistic nature, stating that he is always willing to help others. She emphasized the significance of the fire department’s role in community safety and expressed relief knowing they now have modern protective equipment.
Comerford was inspired to make the donation after witnessing the devastation caused by wildfires in neighboring communities the previous summer.
