A Fredericton resident’s Guinness World Record for running with a stroller has been officially confirmed this week. Julia Reid set the record on February 28, 2026, at the Gagetown Fitness Centre in Oromocto for the fastest one-kilometer push of a single pram by a female.
After completing the race in three minutes and 17 seconds, Reid had to wait for months for the record to be verified. She had to submit photos, videos, and gather evidence and testimonies from witnesses and timekeepers to ensure the accuracy of her achievement.
Reid, a 32-year-old mother from Fredericton, had been training competitively for three years before the record attempt. She integrated speed training into her routine and frequently ran with her daughter, Winnie, who was in the stroller during the record-breaking run.
Winnie, who was 17 months old and weighed 30 pounds at the time, was accompanied by Reid pushing a Thule Urban Glide 2 stroller weighing 25.5 pounds. On August 17, which also happened to be Reid’s birthday, she received the official confirmation from Guinness World Records via email.
Reid expressed her emotional reaction to the news, feeling relieved that the waiting period was over. She had anticipated a 12-week wait but learned from another record-holder that it could take up to six months for verification.
Acknowledging the support she received from the running community, Reid remains open to others attempting to break her record in the future. She values the shared accomplishment with Winnie, highlighting the special bond they formed during training and the goal they pursued together.
Looking ahead, Reid hopes that her daughter will one day appreciate the significance of their achievement and is open to the idea of pursuing another record in the future.
