“Google Introduces Option to Change Gmail Addresses”

Millions of Gmail users are in for a significant update as Google announces the rollout of the option to change email addresses. This development will be welcomed by those looking to switch from their original Gmail account names.

Google stated, “Your digital identity has been enhanced.” Users can now modify their Google Account usernames (the part before @gmail.com), which are used for various services such as Gmail, Photos, Drive, and more.

An added benefit of this update is that the original email address will continue to function alongside the new one. Therefore, messages sent to either account will not be missed by users.

Furthermore, Google assures that existing data in accounts, including photos, previous messages, and old emails, will remain unaffected. However, this feature is currently only available in the US, leaving users in the UK waiting for its arrival.

For users in the US, Google advises accessing account settings and selecting personal information. Then, navigate to email, followed by Google account email. If the option to change the Google account email is visible, users can proceed to select a new and unique username.

It is important to note that the original email address will be retained as an alternate address on the account. Users are limited to creating a new address once every 12 months. To check if the update is available for your account, review your settings accordingly.
