Hamilton police disclosed that a venue in the area, which had initially agreed to host the Dominion Society of Canada’s upcoming national conference, has now rescinded the booking. The event, known as DomCon, was set to feature speakers from Canada and abroad on August 29. Despite the police not revealing further details about the venue or the reasons behind the cancellation, it was confirmed that the booking was indeed called off.
In response to the scheduled event, various Hamilton organizations, including the Hamilton Anti-Racism Resource Centre (HARRC), had cautioned venues against hosting the conference. HARRC also created a guide to help venues identify and avoid inadvertently facilitating white nationalist groups. The Mayor of Hamilton also issued a warning to local businesses and venues in this regard.
Although HARRC acknowledged the Dominion Society’s ongoing efforts to secure an alternative venue under different names like Ridgeway Media, they emphasized the importance of thoroughly vetting event bookings and inquiries for the upcoming weekend. Director Lyndon George refrained from divulging further details about the cancelled booking to protect the venue’s privacy.
Meanwhile, the Dominion Society affirmed that despite opposition, including from the media and politicians, their event, dubbed DOMCON26, is proceeding as planned. Co-founder Daniel Tyrie stated that the event in the Hamilton area is already sold out. The society, founded in 2025 by Tyrie, advocates for “remigration,” aiming to deport millions of immigrants residing in Canada.
Critics, however, have condemned the Dominion Society, portraying it as a promoter of fear and hate. The Canadian Anti-Hate Network recently released a report linking the group to racist ideologies and associations with extremist organizations. Despite these allegations, Tyrie defended the group, stating that it encompasses members from diverse political backgrounds.
As the controversy surrounding the Dominion Society continues, community groups and individuals have urged vigilance against the group’s activities. Concerns about the event prompted B’nai Brith Canada to call for action to prevent foreign extremists from participating as speakers. The organization emphasized the need to combat hatred and extremism within Canadian society.
Regarding security measures, inquiries were made to the Canada Border Services Agency and the Hamilton Police Service. While CBSA clarified its role in issuing travel documents and potential grounds for denying entry, the police service refrained from disclosing specific policing plans related to the event.
