A heroic neighbour in Sherbrooke, Quebec, is being praised for rescuing a woman from a burning house. The neighbour noticed smoke coming from a residence on Bouchette Street around 10 a.m. on Wednesday while working outside. Despite finding the door locked, he quickly retrieved tools from his home to break it down.
The swift actions of the neighbour, identified as Guy Brouillette by a fellow resident, led to the successful rescue of the woman who was found lying on the floor inside the burning house. Sherbrooke Fire Department division chief, Patrick Martel, lauded the neighbour’s bravery and quick thinking, emphasizing the importance of assisting others while prioritizing personal safety.
Upon the firefighters’ arrival, the woman had already been brought to safety and was subsequently transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Approximately twenty firefighters from multiple stations worked tirelessly for nearly two hours to extinguish the blaze at the Sherbrooke residence.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
