Prince Albert authorities announced the discovery of human remains on Thursday while searching for a missing teenager who disappeared in June. The search, which involved the city’s public works and fire departments, as well as the Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue team, led to the recovery of the body in the vicinity of the 300 block of 40th Street East, according to a police statement.
An autopsy is set for Tuesday to confirm the individual’s identity and ascertain the cause and circumstances of death. The mother of the missing teenager, Peyton Flett, named Danica Moore, was informed by the police that they suspect the body belongs to her daughter. Moore chose not to provide further details.
Authorities stated that the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, along with the police major crimes and forensic identification units, are collaborating on an ongoing investigation into the suspicious death. Earlier, a news conference involving the police, the Prince Albert Grand Council, Shoal Lake Cree Nation, and Flett’s parents was held to appeal to the public for any information that could aid in locating her.
The last known sighting of Flett was reported on June 16 or 17 at Marquis Road and Central Avenue near the Northern Lights Casino. Police are currently stationed at the location where the remains were found, conducting inquiries in the wooded area near 40th Street.
